HISTORY AND HERITAGE WEEK OF ACTIVITIES
Under the auspices of the St. Kitts and Nevis University Centre, Professor Barry Chevannes, former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies, will be the special guest lecturer during the third annual History and Heritage Week of Activities February 17 – 23 this year.
A distinguished and highly acclaimed researcher, lecturer, and writer on indigenous and African religious belief and practice in the Caribbean (among many other subjects, including family life and gender relationships), Professor Chevannes will speak to Fifth and Sixth Form in St. Kitts and in Nevis and will present a public lecture and be interviewed on television and radio.
The History and Heritage Week of Activities is an initiative of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society, and its purpose is to promote greater understanding and appreciation among citizens of the history and cultural heritage of St. Kitts and Nevis. The theme for this year is Celebrating our Religious Heritage, and the week of activities will be appropriately launched at an Ecumenical Service on Sunday, 17 February. Other activities will include: radio commentaries, a heritage hike, a TV panel discussion, photo-essay competition and the Know Your Country Primary Schools Quiz. The latter promises to be a highly entertaining and informative contest based upon the Social Studies syllabus of the primary schools of St. Kitts and Nevis. The winners of each of the seven zones in both islands will meet in a grand final that will be broadcast ‘live and in colour’.
The full programme of activities will be announced shortly. All are invited to participate
and to attend the various functions.
Public Lecture entitled Building Partnerships for Mutual Advantage - An Imperative for Small Island States is being held on Wednesday 20 February at 7.00 p.m., at the ECCB Auditorium. The lecture is presented by the Ministry of International Trade as part of its Diplomatic Week.
Kittivisian Life will be interviewing the Kittitian born author Caryl Phillips soon. Interested persons should forward questions to the editor by email at editor@kittivisianlife.com or post a comment.
