Kittivisian Life wishes our readers a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
We are changing; beginning with this issue, Kittivisian Life will be published bi-monthly and online only. We very much regret the change, but have lots of new features to make KL an essential part of your link with the Federation. In this issue we introduce Dr. Miranda Fellows who holds her Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine and is a licensed physician with a speciality in Energy Medicine. Dr. Miranda will begin writing for us in the next issue.
Also in this issue, we begin a new feature, profiling notable individuals who were either born in the Federation or who have roots here. Dr. Sam Rawlins’ profile appears in our Lifestyle section. In our next issue, look out for our interview with Joan Armatrading, Kittitian born and the foremost female singer-songwriter-guitarist whose latest album
A Woman in Love recently debuted at No. 1 on the American Blues Billboard chart.
The last few months of 2007 have seen some important milestones here in the Federation, as well as worldwide. The Nobel Peace Prize to was awarded to former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore and the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which included a team from the Caribbean and a citizen of the Federation – Dr. Sam Rawlins. Locally, our team of Special Olympians came home from the Special Olympics in Shanghai with an impressive haul of medals, including 5 each of Gold, Silver and Bronze in three disciplines and were feted by the Federation on their return.
Staying with sports, the Federation is gearing up for a number of major sporting events in 2008, commencing with the CARIFTA Games in March; two One-Day Internationals between the Australian and West Indies cricket teams in July, and a number of international teams wanting to use the facilities here for team training. This is all part of a major drive towards making sports tourism a high earner for the economy.
Recently, activities were held to celebrate Financial Literacy Month, Breast Cancer Awareness, Youth Month and World Aids Day. See the Lifestyle section for a report on a workshop held by the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat to encourage Behavioural Change Among Youth, the fastest growing sector for cases of HIV infection in the Federation and regionally.
Apology
In our August issue we published an article entitled: 10 Reasons to Encourage Fitness in the Workplace without acknowledging the original source, Bob Boyle. Kittivisian Life apologies to Mr Boyle for this oversight.
As always we welcome your feedback; do send in your views and comments to us at: editor@kittivisianlife.com
