US Embassy Essay Competition


The US Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean is inviting students aged 13 – 17 to submit essays to a competition to honour the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Competitors have to: “Choose a noteworthy African-American figure, past or present, who embodies the ideals espoused by American civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., describe the person’s life and importance and why you think he/she exemplifies Dr. King’s ideals.”

Essays should be at least four and a half to five pages long, including
cover page, reference notes etc., should be typed with a 1.5 or 2 line
spacing and will be judged on originality and creativity.

First Prize is US$500, Second Prize is US$300 and Third Prize is US$200.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, February 07, 2011 and they can be mailed to US Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Public Affairs Section, Wildey Business Park, St. Michael BB 14006, Barbados or emailed to: bridgetownpublicaffairs@state.gov
