It is that time of the year again when all sports enthusiast young and old gather to support their favored high school as they battle for supremacy in the field of athletics.

Here in St. Kitts and Nevis we call it the TDC Inter School Championships and this year it is being held from Friday March 19th through Sunday March 21st.

The Silver Jubilee Stadium will come alive with the opening ceremony followed by the Aqua Vita Cheer Leading Competition and then the games as some 9 events are scheduled to take place on Friday March 19th.

At a press conference on Monday March 15th, organizers of the event spoke of their hopes for this year’s event.

Antonio Nias of the St.Kitts Bottling Company who are one of the sponsors of the 2010 event said he expects keen competition from the eleven schools who will be participating this year. He said that following the recent transitions they have undergone the teams would be evenly matched. “We will have the best inter-school championship to date,” said Nias who added, “We are looking forward to a good competition with elevating standards of performance.”

He noted that the winner of the games will come down to team performance, athletic management, performance and crowd support.

Games Secretary of the St. Kitts Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) Osdel ‘Scotty’ Hanley said the weekend’s games will be an exciting time for the SKNAAA. He echoed the comments of Nias and added that the team that performs the best will win.

Dominic Matthew, marketing assistant at TDC who has officially sponsored the event for some 32 years now said his company is an avid supporter of the event.

On Saturday, the games will commence at 2.00 p.m. and run through to 8.30 p.m. nightly. Persons are being asked to attend the opening ceremony not just because of the cheer Leading competition but also to support the teams as they compete in nine events scheduled for the evening of Friday 19th March.

Local performer Infamous is expected to perform at the closing event on Sunday 21st March.

Following this weekend’s games, the next developmental meet will take place on 10th April. Hanley hinted that a special treat would be in store in the 100-metre race.
