Bankie Banx bar, The Dune Preserve on Anguilla’s beautiful Rendezvous Bay.

My favourite bar is the eccentric, eclectic, intriguing and downright funky Bankie Banx bar at The Dune Preserve on Anguilla’s beautiful Rendezvous Bay. Over nearly 20 years, Bankie has built up an environmentally friendly, 2-level bar which welcomes and delights visitors with its quirky charm. Enter from the road or from the beach – both entrances will attract you.

There are multiple corners and niches to explore, cushioned benches and hardwood chairs to perch on, a couple of small bars (the beach bar is a boat) in which to savour a drink or food, and if the mood takes you, there’s a small dance floor and no-one will mind if you shake your butt. All the while you’ll hear a mix of music; but predominantly Bankie’s own.

The surroundings are tropical chic, the atmosphere is cool and laid back and you might find yourself shooting the breeze with Anguillians or people from any nation under the sun.

If you are lucky enough to be in Anguilla at the end of March, there is no other place to be except Bankie’s for his legendary Reggae Moonsplash – an event over 4 nights where Bankie brings the best reggae talent to Anguilla and usually joins them onstage himself.

Watch out for Bankie’s music video “Big Chief”; you’ll glimpse Rendezvous Bay and the Dune Preserve, maybe enough to whet your appetite to visit. You’ll be glad you did.
