Nevis Launches International First Feature Film Festival

The Community Cohesion Foundation (a non-profit organisation), in partnership with The Nevis Cultural Development Foundation and Community Development (Nevis) have created a new vision based on films. That vision is….. NIF³ – Nevis International First Feature Film Festival.  The Preview will be May 3-8, 2009.

The Festival mission is: is to bring, the techniques of: film production, direction and distribution, to 5th and 6th Form students; putting emphasis on the discovery of first film works by new talent; emerging filmmakers and established stars, that  embody the imagination, boldness and uniqueness  of independent film using ICT and Multi-media.

NIF³ presents a major celebration and leading competitive showcase of first feature films from around the world, with a particular focus on the Caribbean Region. NIF³ will play host to a number of elegant and vibrant galas, including the green-carpet climax to match the Oscars. Films are entered from the following: Nevis, Cuba, Haiti, Mexico, the United States, Canada, France, Portugal, Spain, Chad, Burkina Faso, Senegal, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

The festival provides a unique opportunity to reach a diverse audience including media, celebrities, film enthusiasts, emerging and established filmmakers, entertainment and key industry professionals, consumers, VIP's, attendees and non-attendees.

NIF³ has established links with The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase, coordinating the second event on Nevis from February 1 – 7, 2009.  During that period 1013 children and adolescents viewed 46 films from 12 countries in the Caribbean Basin. The following persons have been appointed as NIF³ judges: Giles Dickenson, Chief TV Production Officer, St. Kitts-Nevis Information Service; Huey Sargeant, Director, Nevis National Television; Rigoberto Lopez, President of the Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase, Cuba; Rita Scheider Director, Alliance Français, France; Claire Yearwood, actress, Equity member.      

In addition, the following professionals have given valuable advice and assistance: Joachim von Vietingham (www.vonvietinghoff-film.de) a film director from Germany, with over 40 years in the industry, fourteen with the Berlin Film Festival; Sheldon Soffer of Sheldon Soffer Management is in the Theatrical Producers and Miscellaneous Theatrical Services industry in New York, NY; Rogier Cornelisse, Creative Director Advertising (http://www.cccp.nl); Paul Meyer, Dutch film director (http://www.beyenmeyer.be/); Hollie D Forest, Canadian fashion designer (http:/www.holliedforest.com).

NIF³ offers a unique opportunity for involvement and participation. Not to mention the exciting buzz and atmosphere that go hand in hand with this festival showing premieres of films from around the diaspora.
