Spring is here again and with it comes the approach of the hurricane season. Issues of climate change are absorbing all of us worldwide and especially for those of us living in small island states the issue of rising sea levels is particularly pertinent.  Recently the United Nations Commissions for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) held an assessment of climate change on the Federation and what actions were being taken to mitigate the effects of such change. This wide ranging workshop looked at many aspects of the environment and what steps were being taken to manage our natural environment.

This past few months have also seen the return of the Turtle nesting season, and our friends at the Turtle Monitoring Network has had a very busy season, with beach clean-ups in preparation for the annual hawksbill and leatherback turtle nesting, they have reported a good number of nest sites so far.

The Economic Climate has been a cause for concern locally in the Federation, Caribbean and Worldwide. All of us must continue to monitor and manage our finances as best we can, being mindful that some are in worse need than ourselves and we should still continue to offer aid and succour to those less fortunate.

Two upcoming cultural events of significance are fast approaching. Nevis has recently launched its First International Film Festival commencing with a cocktail reception on Sunday 3 May – 8 May. Films from the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, Mexico and the United States will be compete for the Green Carpet Awards in what should prove to be an exciting addition to the cultural scene of the Federation.

From June 25-27 all attention will turn to the 13th annual St.Kitts Music festival, where the launch of the line up was announced recently in New York, with the usual eclectic mix of artiste including; Beres Hammond, Regina Belle, our own 4 times Calypso winner King Konris, KC and The Sunshine Band, Burning Spear, Stephen Marley, Movato, T-Pain and many more.  Now would certainly be a good time to take that long desired trip home.

KL will be there to bring you all the highlights so watch this space.
