The Grammy Award Winner Dobet Gnahore performed to a packed Blue Martini Bar at the Marriott Hotel St.Kitts on Thursday. To say that the audience was impressed would be understatement. From the moment she entered the stage, her presence filled the room and her energetic high tempo, performance had the usually reserved St.Kitts crowd on their feet, dancing and clapping in time to the infectious rhythms.

Fresh from an equally trilling performance at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, Dobet expressed her delight at being in the Caribbean, although this is not her first visit; she performed in Haiti about two years ago. At a press conference in St. Kitts she told of her delight at being in the Caribbean again and her hopes for the upcoming performance.

She expressed thanks to the Alliance Francaise of the federation for inviting her to St. Kitts and Nevis, for the opportunity to perform with some of our young local musicians and for contributing to the efforts to help the people of Haiti after the recent earthquake there in January 2010.

The audience at the performance Thursday night crowded to the small stage to get a better look at the acrobatic, fast moving Dobet, and although the language of the songs were unknown to most, there was no mistaking the connection to the rhythms and tempo of the music which seem to reverberate through your veins.

There was no denying that Dobet Gnahore is a performer of tremendous talent,energy, athleticism and presence, and we look forward to seeing her in St. Kitts on the larger stage sometime soon.
