It was not a country versus country competition, but one where the participants from all participating countries are divided into four houses namely Operations (red), Security (green), Marine (yellow), and Maintenance (blue).
The Games rules dictated that all teams had to be a mix of male and female participants, supervised by the Department of Sports of the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
First for the day, was the tug-of-war that had participants huffing and puffing as they strove for all their might in the best of three pulls.
However, it was Security and Operations, which met in the final, and what a contest it turned out to be. Security won the first, but Operations not to be outdone pulled their opponents all the way over the centre marking to send the final into a winner takes all final tug.
The grunting of the pullers could have been heard all the way to Kingstown, and with a final huge intake of breath and a yeoman effort, Security pulled their hefty and not so hefty opponents over the neutral mark to win the 2013 ASCCCPA Tug-of-War.
In addition to winning the tug-of-war, Security won the Netball Competition and Plank, Potato, and Sack Races respectively. They also came in second in the Football competition, and the Drunken Master Race, along with five third-place finishing.
This was sufficient to gain them a total of 62 points for an Overall silver placings in the 2013 ASCCCPA Games.
Marine placed third overall with 54 points. They won the football and basketball competitions, and the 400-metre shuttle race. Additionally Keizy Babb and Chaddy St. Claire both of Marine, won the 100-metres female and male sprints respectively.
Maintenance lone victory was winning the Cricket Competition, placing second in four competitions, third in one, and fourth in seven, which was sufficient to gain them 28 points and occupy the cellar position in the four-house competition.
In amassing the 63 points final tally to take the 2013 ASCCCPA Games Championship, Operations won the Wheelbarrow and Drunken Master races, respectively.
They also placed second in the Cricket and Basketball competitions, the Tug-of-war, the Potato Race, the Plank Race, the 400-metres Shuttle Race, and the 100-metres male and female races, respectively.
It was an intense day of fun and games, as the rules were slightly altered to meet with the requirements of the Games. The ten participating countries were Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts/Nevis, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and hosts Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Next year’s ASCCCPA Games will be held in Jamaica, while the 2015 Games will be in the British Virgin Islands.
