French is the national language of more than 150 million people in the world. Every year, 350,000 students of all ages, nationalities and professions make use of the services offered by the Alliance Française of Paris.

The Alliance Française is a non-profit public association created in 1883. The organization transcends all religious, political and racial areas. AF has 28 branches in France and 1,085 others branches through out 138 countries in the world. The Alliance Française of St. Kitts and Nevis was created in 1980 and had its status reclassified by the Alliance Francaise of Paris in 1994. The Alliance Française of St. Kitts has been operating since 1982 in Greenlands and in Nevis from 1998.

Each branch is recognised by the Alliance Française of Paris. The branches are registered in the host country in accordance with local laws and regulations. Each branch is self sustained and is administered by a local committee comprising of individuals from the private and public sectors. The Alliance Française is geared at transmitting the French language and culture by means of:

• teaching (the oral and written language, professional French, literature…);
• Organisation of cultural and social activities;
• Exchanges and encounters with cultural groups from around the world;

The Alliance Française of St. Kitts is an institution for French language teaching and for local and French cultural activities. It is managed by a non-profit Kittitian organisation. Alliance Française has a president, an executive committee and 130 members presided over by Ms. Clarita Richards and directed by Ms. Rita Schneider.

The regional headquarters is in Castries, St. Lucia. The Alliance Française has been located in Greenlands since 1982; the building comprises three class rooms, a library and a Resource Centre/Internet Café.

As a symbol of French-Kittitian friendship, the Alliance Française of St. Kitts and Nevis is a place of encounters and a forum for exchanges.
