My Favorite Books
Its hard to say “my favorite book of all time” and feel confident I’m being true to so many other books I love, especially the ones listed below (in no particular order), so instead, I’ll say that Redemption Song by Bertice Berry is one of my all time favorite books! Its a beautifully written story, but so much more; it’s a mystical, inspirational, historical, spiritual romantic tale that reminds us of our connections to people; both in the present and the past, how enduring it is and how special that connection is when we recognize and acknowledge it. This is a small book that is a big feast for my soul that I never want to end; it always makes me feel pure and good.
Jim and Louella’s Homemade Heart-fix Remedy by Bertice Berry starts out as one of the most charming, erotic stories I’ve read and later on morphs into a good, soul-warming story much like those by J. California Cooper; I couldn’t ask for more.
Some Soul To Keep by J. California Cooper is a collection of five powerful short stories; every one of them, (like all her other collections of short stories and all her novels), is a gem to collect and treasure always. I think this is my favorite collection, and the story The Life you Live (May Not Be Your Own) is the most special to me. All her stories are filled with themes on self knowledge, redemption, friendship, wisdom, humor, love and peace and so much more and are told in a vernacular and style that may seem old-timey, but is very familiar, comforting and timeless. EVERYTHING by JCC is a worthy read.
You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay (non-fiction) is a powerful book that made me more conscious of negative thoughts and words and how they can influence my life. It is an easy read with examples to illustrate a point and affirmations that I feel really helped me to retrain myself to begin to heal my life.
Dancing on the Edge of the Roof, On the Right Side of A Dream, and Under the Shade of My Own Tree by Sheila Williams. I discovered this author in 2005 when I came across ‘Dancing …’ which turned out to be her second book, and had to go looking for ‘Under the Shade …’ which came out in 2003, and then wait impatiently for more books by her to come out. They are all well written, evocative and moving stories that I enjoyed being thoroughly engrossed in.
Other Books To Enjoy:
The Temple of My Familiar by Alice Walker – an old favorite; once I start reading this book, I never want it to end.
Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen – engrossing and poignant.
The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich – fast paced ‘detective’ stories; a mix of serious and fun with some crazy, funny, sexy, characters.
Kiss of the Highlander, The Dark Highlander, The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning these are my favorite from her Highlander series; great stories filled with fantasy, time travel, magic, romance and hot, steamy SEX!
