The St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Leeds held a Thanksgiving Service in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Independence of St. Kitts and Nevis, on Sunday 15th September 2013 at the Roscoe Methodist Church in the heart of the St. Kitts and Nevis community of Chapeltown.
The Rev Mark Harwood gave the welcome and led the opening prayer, this was followed by an address by Councillor Judith Elliott MBE on behalf of the Mayor of Leeds. Scripture was read and hymns were sung by various groups in the community; The St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Leeds(SKNAL) Youth Choir, the St. Kitts and Nevis Association Choir, the New World Steel Orchestra, Mrs Annwen Johnson, all contributed to a lively and touching service.
The message from the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis was delivered by Ms Jennifer Hensley,Tourism Officer at the High Commission, and the sermon was delivered by Pastor Samuel Thomas of Nottingham. Prayers of intersession was said by Evangelist J Pemberton.
The Vote of Thanks was given by the Chairperson of the St. Kitts and Nevis Association of Leeds Mr Sylvester Leader. The singing of the National anthems of both St. Kitts and Nevis and the United Kingdom, the closing prayer was given by Rev David Stevens of the St. Martin’s Anglican Church.
The procession of the flag was accompanied by the New World Steel Orchester, after which the congregation retired to the church hall for refreshments, where acknowledgements were given to several persons.
