UNESCO Secretary General for St. Kitts and Nevis Mr. Antonio Maynard says plans for next week’s conference On the Ethical Dimensions of the Information Society and Internet Privacy to be held at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort are going well.
The two day conference is slated to begin Wednesday 23rd September, and he explained that 8 OECS countries plus St. Martin have confirmed their participation, with delegates from France and the US arriving earlier.
We discussed the preparations with Mr. Maynard, who explained that the delegates from Harvard University’s Berkman Centre for Internet Society will be visiting some of the schools in St. Kitts during their week long visit.
Mr. Pierre Bowrin ICT Policy Adviser in the Department of Technology, outlined some of the objectives of the conference. He explained that one of the aims of the conference was to highlight some of the adverse impacts of improper use of the Internet, across all aspects of society, but with a particular emphasis on youths. “We want to draw attention some of the challenges facing youth while using the Internet and how they should seek to use the Internet and social media responsibly and respectfully.” Mr Bowrin said.
Mr. Maynard said that he had received positive feedback from many of the overseas delegates, many of whom were eagerly looking forward to the conference.
