DSC_0675 Jaycees49thConventionThe curtains came down on the successful hosting of the 49th West Indies Jaycees Convention which was held in St. Kitts at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort from 14th – 18th October 2009 under the theme “Feel The Passion, Unleash Your True Potential”. The packed program of activities culminated with a majestic Awards Banquet and Closing Ceremony at which keynote speaker the Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis delivered an inspiring address. 2009 Jaycees Caribbean Queen Shelana George entertained the appreciative audience, outstanding Jaycees were honoured for their exemplary service to the organization over the past year, and the new 2010 President and Board of Directors were installed.

About sixty delegates from eight countries (Antigua, Barbados, Guadelope French West Indies, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago) converged on Sweet Sugar-City St. Kitts to attend and access some of the most informative training, general assembly experience, community programs, networking and fellowship sessions. Our French counterpart Betty Fausta from Guadelope explains how conventions like there promote Caribbean unity: “We have to try and create one Caribbean, and starting like this to meet each other and to build bridges to bring us together. This is the way we can have one Caribbean vision“. Delegates left the convention with a fire “ignited in their belly” to BE BETTER for the next year and for the 50th National Convention in Barbados.
