Government’s of St. Kitts and Nevis and The Republic of China on Taiwan Commit to Re-Open National ICT
The Ocean Terrace Inn, was the venue for the National ICT Centre Renovation Kick-Off event, on Friday morning, 9th October 2015.
The centre which has been closed for more than three years. St. Kitts and Nevis Government Ministers, the Hon. Vincent Byron Attorney General and Minister of Communication together with the Hon. Ian Liburd Minister of Infrastructure and Posts were joined by H.E. Chiou Gow-Wei Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan as the two countries committed to re-open the centre by the first quarter of 2016.
H.E. Chio Gow-Wei stated that his country has committed US$220,000 while the government of St. Kitts and Nevis is contributing more than EC$500,000 to renovate the centre and address the structural issues which led to the centre’s closure. H. E. Amb. Wei indicated that within 3 to four months the National ICT Centre would once again be ready to serve as the nurturing ground for developing ICT skills development in the Federation.
Min. Liburd in his remarks indicated that the main contractor – a Taiwanese company – had already begun work and that a local contractor would be identified to work alongside the Taiwanese company to ensure knowledge transfer.
