The National Bank of Dominica Ltd is the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union’s Best Corporate Citizen among Commercial Banks for 2009.
The ECCB presented Good Corporate Citizen Awards to the banks that were adjudged to have carried out their corporate social responsibilities to the highest level in the areas of: Educational Development, Community Outreach and Social Services, Environment Awareness, Sports, Cultural Development, Customer Service and Financial Education and Empowerment. The Best Corporate Citizen Award was presented to the overall winner.
The National Bank of Dominica Ltd through its community outreach and social services programmes, has helped to make a difference in the lives of “at risk” children, the elderly, the poor, persons with disabilities and persons in need of medical assistance.
In the area of environmental awareness, the bank demonstrated its commitment to environmental protection and preservation through its practices and support of environmental awareness initiatives, including the use of recycled paper in its operations.
The bank’s commitment to the preservation of cultural heritage was evident in its financial support for and participation in a number of national, cultural events including sponsorship of a major national music festival, sponsorship and participation in carnival events, adoption of a steel pan band and support of Independence celebration activities where staff proudly adorned themselves in traditional wear every Friday in October as a mark of national pride.
The National Bank of Dominica Ltd also made notable contributions in all the other categories of the competition.
The ECCU Best Corporate Citizen Award, which was initiated by the ECCB in 1997, recognises those banks which, while conducting their day to day business, take time to reach out to the members of the communities in which they operate, and from where they draw their strength.
The other winners in the ECCU 2009 Best Corporate Citizen Award Among Commercial Banks were:
• The Bank of Saint Lucia Ltd which captured the Good Corporate Citizen Awards for Educational Development and Financial Education and Empowerment; and
• The Republic Bank (Grenada) Ltd which received the Good Corporate Citizen Award for Sports and Customer Service.
Fifteen commercial banks from across the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union participated in this year’s competition.
The award ceremony held at the ECCB Headquarters on 4 November, following the presentation of the 14th Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture.
