St. Kitts to Host Haliborange Regional Spelling Bee

The Rotary Club of Liamigua (RCL) along with Haliborange/Seven Seas will host the 4th Annual Spelling Bee on Saturday 12th November at 10.00 a.m at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).

The Haliborange/RCL Regional Spelling Bee Competition 2011 is for Primary School students aged 9-11 years across the Region. This year’s Competition, which is the fourth edition in the series, and the second time that St. Kitts is participating, will see participants from Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts, Saint Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

The major sponsors for this Competition is Haliborange/Seven Seas which is represented in the Federation by Ram’s Trading Limited.

The competition will see eight (8) competitors who have each successfully competed in their countries, vying to become regional champion and taking home $10,000 dollars in prize money, ($5000.00 for 1st place, $3000.00 for 2nd place and $2000.00 for 3rd place.) St. Kitts winner of the Local RCL Spelling Bee Competition which was held on 29 September 2011, Rheyana Davis of Estridge Primary School, is our representative in this exciting Regional Event. Students are accompanied by a parent or guardian, a coach/mentor and a member of the local Rotaract club.

At a recent press conference the competition organisers and sponsors gave details as to the activities that the competitors will be engaged in during their stay in the federation. Participants will arrive on Friday and will stay at the Sugar Bay Club, on Saturday after breakfast at Rituals Coffee House, they will go to the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium for the competition. After the competition there will be an island bus tour and then a pizza party. Regional delegates leave the federation on Sunday.

The public is cordially invited to participate in the Regional Event on Saturday morning (12 November), which brings together one (1) child from each of the countries mentioned above. School buses will transport students from the rural areas to and from the ECCB with pick up before the Event starting at 9.00am.

Admission to the Regional Competition is free. Refreshments will be on sale during intermissions.
