watermelon-wedgesWatermelon is one of the healthiest fruit choices.  It is 88% water and 12% fiber, sugar and vitamins.  This makes watermelon excellent for snacking because water is refreshing, fiber prevents constipation, vitamins are essential for good health, and there is no weight gain. 

Watermelon is an excellent source of several antioxidant vitamins.  Vitamin A helps maintain good eye health.  Vitamin B6 assists brain development and strengthens the immune system.  Vitamin C also strengthens the immune system,  assists wound healing, prevents cell damage, and promotes healthy teeth and gums. 

Watermelons are also rich in potassium, a nutrient that helps control blood pressure. 

Perhaps the most exciting news about the watermelon is the fact that it is high in lycopene, a carotenoid phytonutrient that is important for the health of the prostate, heart and circulation. 

Some people call watermelon “Natural Viagra” because it is a rich source of the amino acid,  citrulline which improves erection and endurance.

Watermelon is an excellent fruit and good medicine.  Use it as an everyday snack or as a beverage.  The entire watermelon is edible.  The rind can be stir fried or even stewed. So, go ahead have a bite today.
