The Black Community of Leeds Say Farewell to Madiba

Madiba
The Black Community of Leeds many others came out to say their final farewell to Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela on Saturday 14th December, 2013. Leaving from the gardens in Leeds City Centre named in his honour, the walk wended its way north/eastwards to that other well known location named in his honour – The Mandela Center in Chapeltown.

Several hundred people braved the very cold day to show their support and solidarity with the nation of South Africa and the world as Madiba laid in state before burial. After a brief gathering outside the centre where many present spoke of their affection and sorrow, accompanied by drumming and chanting the procession proceeded into the centre to sign the book of condolences and take part in the entertainment and refreshment which had been laid on by the organisers.
