Chee Chee the monkey and his friends end up in a pretty heated situation when a nature hike lands them in ancient Montserrat with a rumbling volcano.

The long awaited fourth book in the Caribbean Adventure Series, Fury on Soufriere Hills is now available online. Set in Montserrat, the book has been hailed as Carol Mitchell’s best publication to date by early reviewers. Fury includes two of the characters that we got to know in the series, and introduces Frankie, a young boy from Montserrat who longs to return to his beloved home. Continue reading

Montserrat Secondary School and Charlestown Secondary School Capture First Places in 2012 OECS Essay Competition

Tiffannie Skerritt of the Montserrat Secondary School and Al Flemming of the Charlestown Secondary School in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis are the winners in the respective categories of the 12th OECS Essay Competition, hosted and sponsored by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).

Tiffannie emerged winner of the age 14 – 16 category with her essay on the topic: “What Viable Steps Should OECS Countries Take to Stimulate Their Economies and Significantly Reduce National Debts?” Tiffannie is of the view that OECS countries can achieve this goal by diversifying their economies to non-traditional industries and advancing agricultural industries. Montserrat loves Caribbean thriller ‘The Skin’

Movie lovers on Montserrat got a rare treat this past weekend, when they were able to watch The Skin, a Caribbean thriller from HAMAFilms Antigua at The Montserrat Cultural Centre.
Since the evacuation of Plymouth, Montserrat has not had a full-fledged cinema, however the duo behind The Skin, Howard and Mitzi Allen have made it their business to bring their new movie projects to the island.

Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Sir K. Dwight Venner will present the 2009 Economic Review of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) on 28 January 2010 at 8:00 p.m. on radio and television stations throughout the ECCU.

The Governor’s presentation will focus on a review of the global and regional issues that impacted the economic performance of the Currency Union in 2009, the collective response to the global and economic and financial crisis and the way forward, as the region’s leaders and people work together to improve their standard of living and quality of life.

The presentation will be broadcast simultaneously in the eight member countries of the ECCB – Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Following the Governor’s review, a cross-section of citizens from the ECCB member countries, linked through video-conferencing technology, will engage the Governor in discussions on the issues arising from the presentation and other issues that affect the economic development of the ECCU.

The text, along with audio and video recordings of the Governor’s presentation will be available on the ECCeecuB’s website (www.eccb-central-bank.org) from 29 January 2010.
