Hon. Joseph W. Parry’s Statement on the passing of Nevis’ first Premier the Hon Dr Simeon Daniel

I received the sad news of Honourable Dr. Simeon Daniel’s passing earlier this evening on my way to my hotel from a meeting in Leeds, England.
Dr. Simeon Daniel was the first Premier of Nevis and an outstanding political figure on the island of Nevis from 1970, when he became the first leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) until he voluntarily retired from active politics in 1992.

Following the Election Petition case in Nevis recently, we at Kittivisian Life restrained ourselves from comment. However, we are cognizant that many in the Federation and worldwide are anxious for clear unbiased comment on the matter.
Beginning with the CARICOM, and OAS observer reports on the election, the indications were that there were serious issues with the way that the election process had been conducted.
We provide these two commentaries as objective opinion from one experienced in constitutional law in the hope that our readers would better understand the judgement of Justice Lionel Jones and the recommendations of the CARICOM Electoral Observation Group’s Report.
